create to heal

Create to Heal
Create to Heal™ Compassionate Care is The Women with Wings Foundation’s signature program. For the last decade, I have been working with cancer and chronic pain patients, their family members and healthcare providers in compassionate and collaborative ways. The program is based on the use of all forms of art, including what I call “the art of scribbling and doodling,” that allow participants to “get out of their heads and into their hearts” where healing begins. Breaking the stress and pain cycles – whether it is emotional, physical or spiritual pain – is key to the program’s success.
One of the core benefits of the Foundation’s Create To Heal™ program is stress reduction. I often receive the following patient feedback: “This class gives me great peace and joy. I am much calmer, more relaxed.” “The Create to Heal™ workshop is a mind-expanding experience that enables you to communicate with your inner-most being. The workshop relieves stress, brings joy and peace.”
To implement and provide the Create to Heal™ program, I have worked with patients, their families and side by side with oncology nurses, doctors, pain management specialists, chaplains and spiritual care providers, social workers, psychologists, art therapists, hospital administrators, and hospice and palliative care specialists. By now, some form of Create to Heal™ has been experienced by thousands of people going through serious illness and disease, chronic pain, fear and anxiety.

Breaking the stress and pain cycles is key to the program’s success.
The techniques and exercises developed include a variety of healing practices.
Here are the five principles of the Create to Heal program:

- Create to Heal for Cancer
- Create to Heal for Pain
- 12-month Gratitude Journal
- Create to Heal Mindfulness App
Because integrative medicine and whole patient care are now becoming more prevalent and sought after by patients, I offer a train-the-trainer program to hospitals, cancer and chronic pain centers and addiction clinics.

“This training workshop was excellently presented, well-paced and rich in content. I feel it was not only educational for us in a professional development capacity, but the experiential components felt personally enriching as well. I believe Create to Heal may be a great vehicle for team building or as a form of self-care for staff (to prevent compassion fatigue/burnout.) The case examples were also quite impactful.
Hearing about the relevant research and evidence to support the efficacy of the program was also important, in terms of both the Dempsey Center’s commitment to using evidence-based practices and in. justifying cost of program to administrators.
Thank you, Patricia for sharing your time and expertise with our team! We can’t wait to offer up Create to Heal to our clients!”
